Introduction
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for six Light House Projects (LHP) in six states through a video conference on January 1, 2021, under the Global Housing Technology Challenge. Under this plan, state-of-the-art technology will be used to build resilient housing projects at a faster pace.

The use of new construction technology is expected to reduce the overall construction cost. Properties are expected to become more affordable in the world’s second-most populous country.
The prime minister announced at the launch that thousands of lighthouses will be built in the next 12 months at selected locations. “These structures act as incubation centers through which our planners, architects, engineers, and students learn new technology. And the experiment,” he said.
“These LHPs serve as live laboratories for faculty and students, builders and private professionals for various aspects of planning, design, component production, construction methods, testing, etc. in transferring technologies to field applications. and the public sector and other stakeholders involved in such construction,” states the official website of the Global Housing Technology Challenge.
Lighthouse Project Locations
Under this program, housing construction projects are being constructed in six areas across the country. Let’s find out where these areas are.
- Indore, Madhya Pradesh
- Rajkot, Gujarat
- Chennai, Tamil Nadu
- Ranchi, Jharkhand
- Agartala, Tripura
- Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh
The government plans to build 1,000 lighthouses in each location by the end of 2021. In July this year, the PM reviewed six ongoing lighthouse projects with drones. These units are being built with six different technologies from a basket of 54 technologies.
Technologies Used in Lighthouse Projects
- Indore Light House Project
The Light House project in Indore uses a prefabricated sandwich panel system to build the walls instead of brick and mortar.
- Rajkot Lighthouse Project
A monolithic concrete construction technique is used to build houses in the disaster-resilient city of Rajkot, an earthquake-prone region. In the same way, they are building with French technology to build with the ability to withstand disasters.
- Chennai Lighthouse Project
In Chennai, the precast concrete system will help developers build affordable houses faster under the Lighthouse project. The US and Finland are using this popular technique.
- Ranchi Lighthouse Project
Germany’s 3D construction system is being used to build lighthouses in Ranchi. The technology allows each room to be built separately. Lego blocks are then assembled like toys.
- Agartala Lighthouse Project
In Agartala, earthquake-safe houses are constructed using steel frames. This technique is most commonly used in New Zealand.
- Lucknow Lighthouse Project
A lighthouse will be built in Lucknow without plaster or paint using Canadian technology. The use of prefabricated wall structures helps in the quick completion of these units.
Amenities in Lighthouse Projects
Lighthouse projects include internal roads, pathways, and common green areas. It also has a well-developed infrastructure, including boundary walls, water supply, sewage, rainwater harvesting, solar lighting, and external electrification. The cluster design includes innovative systems of water supply, drainage, rainwater harvesting, and renewable energy sources, with a special focus on solar energy.
Conclusion
Due to these lighthouse projects undertaken by the government, residential and commercial projects are developing in the vicinity. Due to this, real estate will develop rapidly. For more information, visit openplot.
