Notices to farmers to demolish illegal structures on notified land near Jewar Airport

The Gautam Budhnagar district administration has issued notices to 200 farmers from six villages for illegal construction on land notified for the second phase of Noida International Airport.

Officials said that the notice warned that action would be taken against the farmers who constructed illegal structures and that the illegal structures would be demolished. Officials said that the farmers will also have to pay for the demolition work.

The Notification Was Issued

According to the rules, no construction, sale, or purchase of land is allowed after the issuance of a gazette notification on the land acquisition process. A notification was issued in November 2022 to acquire 1,363 acres of land for Jewar Airport Phase 2.

A senior official of the Gautam Budnagar district administration said in a notice that several illegal constructions have been going on at the site notified for the second phase of the Jewar airport for the past few months.

“The administration has issued notices to around 200 farmers for illegal construction on their land, which is set to be acquired for the airport. People usually do this for higher compensation, as the government pays more for the land on which buildings or structures are built. However, this benefit is available only to those who have built such structures before being notified to acquire their land for development projects,” the official told Moneycontrol.

Farmers were warned that action would be taken if construction was carried out on the land. Under Noida International Airport Project Phase 2, the administration has to acquire 1,363.45 hectares of land. Of this, 1,185 hectares are private land spread over six villages, namely Ranhera, Dayanatpur, Karoli Bangar, Birampur, Kureb, and Mundhera.

Around 3,800 families are likely to be displaced due to the land acquisition process. The administration is likely to spend Rs 2,891 crore for the second phase of land acquisition. In this regard, it has already received Rs. 1,084 crore from the Uttar Pradesh government. The land acquisition process for Phase 2 started in November 2022.
