Durgam Cheruvu’s Latest Updates

In the latest update, the authorities have reportedly placed 67 CCTV cameras for 24×7 surveillance of the Durgam Cheruvu Bridge in Hyderabad. It has formed a lake police unit comprising 10–20 officers and deployed a patrol boat and battery-powered bikes, among others, to monitor the area of the iconic bridge. What’s more, they have set up a watch tower on the shore of Durgam Cheruvu Lake.

Durgam Cheruvu Project Details

Under the initiative of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the Durgam Cheruvu Bridge was constructed under the government’s Strategic Roads Development Plan (SRDP). Under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) scheme, the construction company Larsen and Toubro Limited built it for 184 crores.

Inaugurated by Telangana Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao, the bridge has become one of Hyderabad’s signature structures in a very short period of time.

Connectivity

  • This bridge will reduce traffic. It will reduce the travel time between Madhapur and Jubilee Hills from 40 minutes to 10–15 minutes.
  • Officials have fixed a maximum speed of 35 kmph for vehicles on the bridge.
  • It is open to the public and has a four-lane elevated corridor to facilitate vehicular traffic from Road No. 45 to the bridge.
  • The bridge was built in 22 months.
  • All materials are sourced domestically except cables, imported from Germany.
  • The bridge was constructed with 420 Mt of high-tensile strands, 26,600 Cu m of concrete, 4,800 Mt of steel, and 287 Mt of stay cables.
  • The length of the cable-stayed stretch is 426 m. It has 52 stay cables.
  • The length of the solid ramps and approach viaduct is 309.8 meters. There are 1.9-meter footpaths on both sides
